Advent 2013 Worship Schedule
Advent is a time of anticipation and waiting, essential to the spiritual life. It is a waiting with a promise for the birth of Jesus. Let us welcome him by participating during each Advent Sunday at 10:30 am in the sanctuary, and singing “There Are Angels Hov’ring Round….”
First Sunday of Advent—December 1
The first Advent candle of hope will be lit by Bettina Martin and George Andrews. We will share hopes for the season and then post these hopes. Rev. Natalie Shiras will preach from the prophet Isaiah 2:1-5 in a message of hope. Holy Communion will be served.
Second Sunday of Advent—December 8
The second Advent candle of peace will be lit by Ruth Dexheimer and Scott Harrington. Rev. Natalie Shiras will preach from Isaiah 11:1-10 about the prophet’s vision of a peaceable kingdom. John Cheney and the choir will lead the congregation in “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord”.
Third Sunday of Advent—December 15
The third Advent candle of love will be lit by Susan Booth and Alice Hoff. Barbara Sims and Rev. Natalie Shiras will give a dialogue message about who Mary is to us based on Mary’s Magnificat from Luke 1:46b-55.
Fourth Sunday of Advent—December 22
The fourth candle of joy will be lit by Bob Brown. Rev. Natalie Shiras will preach a message of joy based on the story of Joseph’s courtship of Mary from Matthew 1:18-25. The congregation will share moments of joy.
Christmas Eve, 6:30 p.m., December 24
A traditional candle light service will be celebrated to announce the birth of Jesus with carols and lessons and a Christmas message by Rev. Natalie Shiras.
Come usher in the new year with the story of the three wise men’s visit to the Christ child.
Jack Brown, baritone, will be singing and Rev. Natalie Shiras will give an Epiphany message. Holy Communion will be served.
